Review: Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen!

Focusrite has become a very famous brand for producing stellar and affordable audio interfaces. The company really shines with it’s smaller and more budget interfaces, which have a lot of the capabilities of the more expensive models.

A very user friendly interface.

My only (and therefore my favorite) product of theirs is the 2i2 3rd gen Scarlett. It’s nice to look at, and if you watched my video, you saw all the inputs it had to offer. It’s versatile, and the latency is also incredily low to the point where it isn’t noticeable. I highly recommend this item, even if it is on the pricier side.

Until next time, see ya!

Review: Eris 3.5 Speakers

Thought I’d review my two favorite things about recording that have mad life so much better (the other is my Scarlett) and thought I would do a quick review of them.

A beauty.

The Eris 3.5 speakers are a modest size and made for compact desktop setups, which fit my needs completely. They’re also probably the best pair of speakers you can get for under 100 dollars or at least within that price range. The bass, clarity, and pretty much everything else about them is exceptional compared to a standard laptop speaker. I haven’t been exposed to too many kinds of speakers, but mixing on these helped a lot with my first release and I’m sure they’d help you too so give them a shot!

Until next time, see ya!

Review: Shure SM58

Referred often as the “hammer” of microphones, because of its durable nature, the SM 58 doesn’t mess around. This mic can be used for just about everything and is super versatile. Dynamic mics are often used for podcasting and recording vocals which I can say this one certainly does just that! It also works wonders for recording instruments. It doesn’t really hinder quality and while there are definitely better mics out there, this one is nothing to scoff at, especially for such a relatively cheap price. Check it out here!

Classic.

Until next time, see ya!

Some Advice For Shopping

Considering we’re working to do this all on a budget, here’s some tips for buying audio gear, or even instruments in general.

  • Don’t be afraid to purchase used gear: many stores have a used gear return policy, and for the most part, the music community is pretty honest. If there isn’t a glaring flaw in anything you’re trying to purchase, you should be okay. Also, many stores allow you to try their equipment if applicable, so you can see for yourself if it’ll suit your needs.
  • There’s a line between “good for my wallet” and “good quality”: If you like the price of something that’s great, but do your research to avoid heartbreak or even losing your money depending on the seller.
  • Student discounts: Pro Tools is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to purchase if you’re enrolled in a college program. Like hundreds of dollars kind of cheaper. I would take full advantage to outright buy the perpetual license if you’re serious about the long run of this.
  • Free trials: Plenty of programs have free trials that allow you full access to the program just to see how it works. Since we’ll be using pro tools, see for yourself! All you have to do is make an account on Avid and download the free trial from there. There is also a free, but limited version of the software that you can keep forever!
  • Shop locally: Whether if you’re looking for instruments or audio equipment, business always tends to be booming somewhere nearby. Guitar Center is a great chain for not just guitars, but everything else you’ll need too! However, independent businesses can definitely offer better deals and it always helps to support them, so just be on the lookout.

Well, that’s all for now.

As always, thanks for stopping by. See ya!
